Geas (pronounced "gesh") is the original EP from dot.darkness crafted especially for the 2022 Halloween season. It features some new songs as well as some returning favorites, including a cover of Robot Soft Exorcism by Thrice.

Coronation comes at a challenging time in world history. Under the weight of the COVID-19 pandemic, multiple movements against social injustice, and crumbling American political systems, the boys in dot.darkness had almost limitless time at home to create music but almost no emotional capacity for the process.

As fall set in and October was around the corner, Colin developed a new fondness for horror films, starting with modern favorites and working back through the classics. The dread invoked by these films felt like a strange form of escapism at the time, opening a window to a world that is somehow worse than the one we actually inhabit.

Building off the synthwave platform they had established with The Hunger on their previous album, dot.darkness got to work on some new material inspired by these films and other horror-themed artists like Carpenter Brut. The first work to come from this effort was Coronation, which is directly inspired by Ari Aster’s Midsommar.

On Valentine’s Day of 2014, dot.darkness released their first EP: Damage Over Time. Five years later, the boys have been through a great many changes in their lives, and have come through the other side of difficult and trying times. This rerelease marks an important milestone for dot.darkness, not just in the amount of time that they’ve been making music, or by how much they’ve matured in their craft, but also in who they are as individuals and as a band.

Damage Over Time (Over Time) is a full remake of the original EP, not simply remixed and remastered copies. Each song has been crafted from the ground up with all new recordings, all new sounds, and a fresh mix and master to reflect the growth of the band. In some cases, the songs are fairly true to their original style, and in other cases you’ll hear a radically different take on your favorites.

The 5th Anniversary Rerelease Of Our First EP

Polymorph is a self-produced seven track album concerning, as the name suggests, transformations, journeys, and occasionally distortions of the Self. A labor of love written, recorded, and produced over the course of roughly 3-4 years in between and around momentous occasions in real life for its authors, it draws from depictions of transformative experiences in works of science fiction and fantasy of various media (books, music, video and tabletop games), conceptually furthering previous releases beginning with the Damage Over Time EP.

A marriage of progressive rock and drum ‘n’ bass (with a brief, yet righteous dip into synthwave), Polymorph is at least as geeky as it is reflective, striving to be a sincere exploration of the aforementioned themes without being too serious.

Polymorph also features a cover of The Chain by Fleetwood Mac. Rumours is a long-time favorite for the boys, and they are thrilled to present their take on this classic.

Darkvision is dot.darkness’ second EP, and takes a vastly different approach than their previous efforts on Damage Over Time. Darkvision lives up to its name with a dark, chilling, electronic canvas and burst of intensity from driving electric guitars. Josh’s vocals and the thoughtful lyrical tone throughout the album make Darkvision a must-hear.

This album draws on the earliest roots of the band, and marks the official release of their very first single, Afterthought. The track has come a long way since its first composition several years prior, and Afterthought helped form the basis for the rest of the album. From 7-string guitars to dubstep beats and vocoders, Darkvision is sure to satisfy any musical mood.

In its early years, dot.darkness worked largely in remixes, cover songs, and an original single here or there. They also produced two Christmas EPs, one in 2012 and one in 2013. While these themed releases featured original songs, they were clearly not what the band aspired to work on long-term.

That's why Damage Over Time is considered the first original EP from dot.darkness, and thus it marks a very important moment in the band's history. This short collection of songs began under Josh's solo persona, but in late 2013 he decided to revive them and see what could be done with them under the band's burgeoning dynamic.

While Damage Over Time remains on the lighter side of the dot.darkness sound, it introduces many of the elements that the band would continue to develop over the years, including 80's electronica vibes, chiptunes, electric guitars, and Josh's smooth vocals and catchy melodies.
